27th – 28th January: Houston Tea Festival Where: Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake. Cost: Starting from 9.5 euros.
Houston, TX – Hurricane Harvey has not stopped the Houston Tea Festival, but it will be held at a new location, the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake. On Saturday, January 27 and Sunday, January 28, 2018, the hotel will be transformed into “Mugworts Academy” with the theme of Harry Teapotter and the Perfect Cuppa. This exciting event will celebrate the “magic” of the world’s most popular beverage, tea, with talks, classes and tastings presented by expert speakers; vendors, samples, live entertainment, and children’s activities. A silent auction will benefit KIPP School Southeast Campus, whose students and their families are still recovering from Harvey.
Iced tea is a staple refreshment during the hottest months of summer here in Houston, for some, but hot tea is a pretty popular choice too — year round — especially with Houston’s growing diversity. Hot tea drinking is something people from Asia, the UK and Ireland grew up on.
Perhaps that explains why this year Houston is having its first Tea Festival, with hopes of making the event annual.
The Houston Tea Festival Debuts Next Weekend – HAVE YOU EVER MET A TEA SOMMELIER? Amanda Vermillion, director of the Houston Tea Festival, is one. She began her honeyed journey when she earned her tea master certification in early 2013. In that same year, she started her own business, the Tea Mistress, LLC, and attended the World Tea Expo in Las Vegas—the country’s largest tea industry convention—for the first time.
Now she’s kicking off a tea festival of her own in Houston.
